Micronized Rubber Powder (MRP) is a highly refined form of crumb rubber produced from 100% recycled radial truck and bus tires. The process of creating MRP involves multiple stages, including shredding, grinding, and the removal of steel wires using powerful magnets. The resulting powder is characterized by its fine particle size (ranging from 80-170 mesh) and high surface area, which enhances its integration into rubber compounds.
- High Surface Area: The fine particles of MRP have a high surface area, allowing for better interaction and bonding with other components in rubber compounds.
- Mechanical Bonding: During the compounding process, rubber penetrates into the high-structure MRP particles, creating strong mechanical bonds. This integration imparts high properties to the final product.
- No Loss of Properties: Studies have shown that using up to 10 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of MRP does not result in any loss of properties in the final rubber compound. This allows for cost reduction while maintaining performance.
- Improved Mould Flow: When using 2-3 phr of fine crumb rubber, the mould flow of complicated designs, such as tire treads, is improved, facilitating better manufacturing outcomes.
